There are two types of lice control product: ‘IGRs’ and ‘knockdowns’.
While both effectively kill lice, they work in different ways.
Insect growth regulators (IGRs) such as Zapp
target the insect exoskeleton, killing juvenile lice and sterilising
adults, providing long-term lice control. Because of their mode
of action, IGRs protect against reinfestation for 12 weeks after
application.
Knockdown products target the nervous system,
killing lice within a short time frame, but cease killing lice
after this period. The difference between IGRs like Zapp and
other knockdown-type products is that IGRs keep killing lice
for longer.
Zapp is a solvent-based IGR with a long history of reliable
control. Coupled with good lice management, Zapp can provide
woolgrowers with confidence that their wool clip can be protected
from reinfestation long after shearing and treatment.
Lice control with an IGR provides long-term protection
from reinfestation.
Lice life cycle
Full life cycle lasts about 31 to 35 days.
Adult female lives about 4 weeks.
